Empowering the Los Angeles Unified School District through Advocacy
About the client
As the second-largest U.S. school district, LAUSD tackles unique challenges in K-12 education, specifically addressing gaps in achievement for diverse student groups.
Our Work
Since 2008, Raben has collaborated with LAUSD, providing federal advocacy services to support fiscal and policy priorities. Focused on key issues before the U.S. Congress and the Department of Education, our strategy encompasses a wide range of education legislation, including the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), Perkins Career and Technical Education Act (CTE), and Child Nutrition Act.
Our efforts extend beyond policy development; we've built strong relationships with key stakeholders, securing opportunities for LAUSD leadership to testify before Congress. We played a crucial role in averting annual Medicaid cuts, securing significant Education Jobs funds in 2010, and influencing legislative priorities in the ESSA reauthorization.
Raben's ongoing work includes ensuring ESSA regulations align with LAUSD's goals, advancing Perkins CTE Act reauthorization, supporting Linked Learning initiatives, and advocating for increased special education funding. We facilitate direct lobbying through fly-ins and organize regular Hill visits for LAUSD leadership, ensuring their voices are heard on critical education issues.
