NARAL
Guiding NARAL through Crisis with Strategic Counsel
About the client
NARAL Pro-Choice America is a 4 million-member advocacy organization that mobilizes to protect and advocate for reproductive freedom in America.
Our Work
NARAL engaged with Raben at a time of great challenge for the organization — the stressors of external political pressures, the racial reckoning that had embroiled nonprofit organization staff across the country, a major data breach, and then midway through the engagement the addition of a leadership transition.
Raben provided communications counsel, strategy and execution to NARAL leadership as it navigated immediate DEI challenges, the data breach and longer term assessment and messaging. We provided Internal communications support, including preparation for an all staff Town Hall and other immediate and longer term interactions with staff around culture, diversity, equity and inclusion. We also led on stakeholder (including donor) engagement, providing counsel and support in the immediate and longer term as NARAL continued to evolve in the DEI space, grappled with its presence in the sector, and sought to protect its brand. Lastly, we provided media relations support, including talking point development, pitching, assessing interview requests, reviewing op-eds and other longer form pieces.
Our goal with NARAL, as with every crisis client, was to prepare for the worst while actively working to mitigate reputation risk and to leave the organization, as a result, stronger than it was when we began our partnership.
