A director in Raben's Strategic Communications practice area, Brenda Arredondo has more than 15 years of experience in communications and progressive politics, and a penchant for understanding how to connect issues to the news of the day.

Prior to joining Raben, Brenda spent almost seven years on Capitol Hill, including three years as press secretary for the U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee during the height of the Great Recession. She also served as communications director for Congressman Gene Green (D-Texas) and as a legislative assistant for Congressman Rubén Hinojosa (D-Texas). Brenda is also experienced with national, state, and local campaigns, including time as Iowa deputy political director for Senator Chris Dodd’s 2012 presidential campaign, where she also served as a campaign liaison to the national Hispanic press corps.

Brenda manages a wide communications portfolio at Raben. She has thoughtfully steered clients such as the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda, the Southern Poverty Law Center, and the National Center for Learning Disabilities to more effective communications tactics and strategies. Brenda has an uncanny ability to know what help is necessary even before the need is articulated by clients or team members. She presently works with clients across the country, creating strategic communications plans, including messaging guidance, event coordination, and media engagement that complement their annual goals or campaigns while helping to manage their day-to-day operations, media requests, websites, and social media. Throughout her time at Raben, Brenda has helped clients author and place opinion pieces and stories in outlets like The New York Times, The Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Dallas Morning News, Houston Chronicle, and other top-tier outlets across the country.

Well-versed in the latest forms of online communications, Brenda also helps clients navigate the ever-changing social and digital landscape. During her time at the Joint Economic Committee, she established one of the first verified, official social media platforms in Congress, and since then, has continued to bring her digital expertise to her clients, including the launch of various social media accounts that have garnered tens of thousands of followers.

A native of El Paso, Texas, Brenda holds bachelor’s degrees in Political Science and Religious Studies from Rice University. She is fluent in Spanish and a member of the board of ADL’s Mid-Atlantic regional chapter. Brenda is an opinion author on life with a disability whose editorials have appeared in The New York Times, HuffPost, and others.
